I'm still waiting for my photobucket links to break with a kind of fascination of watching a crash in slow mo. I pretty much only use photobucket for fanish stuff, and that sparingly since I don't do a lot of art, mostly banners and things these days. I haven't lost access to my account yet.

But really that had me browsing through pictures on my phone recently since that's my main camera for recording my life, and it's kind of hilariously made up of two things for the past few months: bread in various stages and animals that my cat has killed and brought to the door. Which is even more hilarious when you know that my 1st grade science project was titled "Animals that my cats catch." So yeah.

Anyway. I'm making regular loaf bread today from the Joy of Cooking, and tomorrow I'm going to do Casatiello, which is an enriched Italian bread that has chunks of cheese and salami in it. I haven't gone grocery shopping for the extra ingredients yet, which is why it's waiting till tomorrow.

Been working on my Teen Wolf fic this week. I'm kind of feeling like I want to clear off what's ongoing before starting something really new. I'm still messing with Dragon Age short fic, but I don't really have a direction for a lot of that, though I'm thinking I might once I get to some mysterious critical mass.

Still been reading a lot of Dragon Age fic. This week's rec is
Haven (256723 words) by SageFic
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Cullen Rutherford/Female Mage Trevelyan
Summary: Kate Trevelyan, mage and earnest, genteel nerd, travels to the Conclave with Colleen Lavellen, an ex-Dalish-turned-librarian, and Robert Trevelyan, her charming smuggler cousin. But when the Divine's peace talks explode, Robert falls in with bad company, Coll finds herself chasing mercs, and Kate becomes...the Herald of Andraste? Sort of. Kate has absolutely NO idea what she’s doing, and her growing attraction to a certain former templar isn’t helping.

Why I love it: This covers just the time in Haven starting a little before the game with some really great character work throughout. Basically I love this story for the conversations you get between characters. It delves into the mage-templar conflict, and really sets up a nice discussion between mage!Trevelyan and Cullen about Kirkwall that is really well done and not seen very often. Early scenes include Divine Justinia, and there's a lot of good daily life included. It diverges enough from gameplay to keep it interesting. I'm not a huge fan of the Lavellen or male!Traveleyan characters that are included, or the epistolary chapters, but over all it's good.

For Deathly Hallows. And I can't really think of anything to say. :/

I guess I can ask a few questions!

1. If you've been re-reading (or have re-read recently enough to remember), what are your impressions now versus then?

2. Did you have any fan theories that came true, OR that were the exact opposite of what happened?

3. Did you write or read any fics that were eerily close to DH?

4. Anything else?

I am eventually going to do a Buffy/HP caption crossover. Or another one, I should say. Maybe over the weekend. :) And I will get to those drabbles eventually.

Greetings flist!

We saw Wonder Woman yesterday. I cried through the whole thing. A little pleased with myself for remaining completely unspoiled except for no cats on Themyscira. I was rigorous about not clicking on a single link or cut tag and my flist is so thoughtful about using cuts, thank you! Gal Gadot is beyond glorious. This movie needs a Best Picture Oscar nomination. Etta reminds me of [profile] lorie945. I actually finally have a superhero movie I love :-)

H and I are leaving for the beach in a couple hours, I just got new tires put on the front so Catbus is good to go.

I was sitting in the Les Schwab tire store when I saw the news on tv about that asshole Spicer resigning. I had no self control, I just burst into loud guffaws and couldn't stop for about five minutes.

Yesterday morning Harry tried to pee on some clothes in [personal profile] hanarobi's room. I thwarted him and he ran outside. I followed him to watch him pee in the dirt and spend about five minutes ostentatiously covering it up with a pile of leaves.

Since DW butchered my earlier post, I'm trying to re-post. (Take three. Sigh. I'm so sorry, guys.)

Not 100% sure why I'm being nostalgic - I've grown up, after all. I'm not the slightly naive 22 year old girl I was ten years ago. But I also think part of growing up is realizing some things will always stay with you. Besides, adulthood sucks sometimes, and one needs a retreat to simpler times.

So even if I feel I should be talking about properly adult things instead of squeeing over a book series I used to really love, screw it, my LJ/DW's going to be nostalgic today. :P

Apparently I have the day to myself, so I may concoct a few drabbles or... something later.

I said I was going to do more Harry Potter nostalgia. Well, the fact that this post is Harry Potter related is nostalgic, I suppose, but mostly it's just your everyday putting characters from other media into Hogwarts Houses. :P

Here is my assessment. Feel free to add your own input. I tried to do this humorously, as opposed to doing it as Srs Bsns, although there's also analysis to it.

Just about packed for the con tomorrow; what's not yet set aside is recorded on a checklist and waiting to be collected. The MP3 player gets loaded up last.

Today at work I learned all over again just how different I am from my coworkers: they never looked inside some of the filing cabinets in the office when they got there. They've been working there much longer than I have, and today was the first day those cabinets got a proper investigation and a full cleaning. They were stuffed with all sorts of office detritus: loose envelopes with office letterhead, computer cables, takeout leftovers like salt packets and napkins, delivery menus, pens, block of staples, post-it notes, lost clothes, medical records that can't yet be thrown out because of federal regulations, shower gel, candy, perfume samples, rubber bands, paper clips...stuff, mostly. Lots of stuff. That I would've cleaned out in days of arrival if I'd been able to, because I would've gone looking to see what's around and figured out what to do with it all. Like, for example, throwing away old delivery menus.

I recognize a fair amount of inertia behind a closed cabinet door in an office where things are always busy. I also wonder why they never raided those cabinets for pens, when pens are a valuable commodity in basically any office environment.

Next week, I'm taking the clothes back with me, washing them, and then dropping them off at an appropriate fabric recycling program. I figure it's the best option available.

Crack theories I wrote right before the seventh Harry Potter book came out!

And so commences a lot of nostalgia in the next couple of days. :P

(Obviously there are still spoilers for all books. Also, my current commentary will be in italics.)

The Weasleys (Prewetts?) are descended from Godric Gryffindor.

Why it almost works: The  Weasleys are as Gryffindor as it gets, from the good points to the bad, and they are fiercly pro-muggle, which certainly could've stemmed from something, right? Plus, that could also very well make the Blacks descendants, and wouldn't the irony of that be delicious? (Plus, it would work with my Sirius = desendant of Ayla and Jondalar crack fics I never wrote...) Finally, Ginny would've therefore technically been saved by the sword of her ancestor, another thing that would be cool. Not to mention the red hair - now, obviously, red hair isn't rare in Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales or anywhere else, Godric could've been from at that time (he could've been a Dane, and red hair is not uncommon in Denmark, from what I understand), not to mention the fact that a red hair gene carrying down so long would be hard, but it's still another tidbit. Um... not really, I listed about 87 reasons why that wasn't significant, but sure. Okay. :P

Why it still doesn't work as a whole: It just seems very, very far-fetched. Plus, I like Ron for being normal, and being a descendant would take away from that. Though conversely, it'd be nice for him to have something to be proud of, because I don't get the impression he feels proud of much. You can deny being a Chess pro or good at Quidditch, but you can't deny being the descendant of Godric Gryffindor.

But again, it's just something that I feel is far-fetched.

Willy Widdershins was a cover up.

Why it almost works: Umbridge noted that he eavesdropped on the trio and the to-be DA in OoTP, and that was why he got away with hexing the toilets. But isn't it rather convenient that around the time there were "rumors" that Voldemort was back, a random wizard hexed muggle bathrooms?

We know Umbridge was willing to send Dementors after Harry. Why wouldn't she do more to make the MoM look good, to prove that any wizard could cause mayhem?

It's also possible that Lucius Malfoy bribed Willy Widdershins to take those actions. It would definitely bring attention away from the Death Eaters, no?

Think of the general population reaction - "oh, it was some bloke with too much time on his hands, that other incident may have been too."

Why it still doesn't work as a whole: That plot died, so unless it comes back to haunt someone in a significant way, we won't need to know whether or not that's true. Also, if anything, it was probably a plot that was supposed to serve as a red herring - make the reader wonder if it was connected to Voldemort, when it really wasn't. And it was too a way for the DA to get caught.

Andromeda Tonks  knows something about Regulus that could be useful to finding out he is RAB.

Why it almost works: Harry is going to have to find out about the connection somehow. It is very possible that Andromeda Tonks knows something important - she may even know that Regulus destroyed the Horcruxes. She's also been alluded to, but never introduced, which seems strange.

Why it still doesn't work as a whole: At this point, introducing a whole new character and making her the key to a huge discovery for Harry would be pushing it. Why would it even occur to Harry to ask her, anyway? He'll more likely find out about RAB by Kreacher, Remus (who would  probably know his best friend's brother's  first and last initials), Tonks (as in, younger Auror Tonks) and/or by simple looking around.

He DID find out through Kreacher!

The "other trio" will accompany Harry on the Horcrux Hunt, whether it takes place at Hogwarts or beyond. Took me a minute to realize I meant Luna, Neville and Ginny. Also LOL at  "The Horcrux Hunt."

Why it almost works: If it hadn't been for them, the DoM scene may have turned out quite differently. Luna, Neville and Ginny are extremely useful. And why give them plots if they won't be used again? They all have traits, too, that would be useful - Luna's tendency to accept things that are hard to accept could be an asset, for one. And they'll need Luna and Neville's gentle composures.

Why it still doesn't work as a whole: It's less that it doesn't work - it's more that it'd have to be done carefully, because in the end, it needs to be the trio. I'm not convinced it won't work, but I am convinced that it'll be less the other trio joining, and more that they help out as a seperate group, or that in the final battle, Ron and Hermione are present in helping directly but not the rest. They did lead La Resistance, though! (Luna, Neville and Ginny, that is.)

Crookshanks is Regulus.

Why it almost works: It definitely doesn't; the only place it belongs is in a badfic at the pit of voles. (Unless the author can write it very well.) But it's an amusing theory to cross your mind. I want crackfic now.

ETA: After writing this, I'm not sure "crack theories" is the right term, but they're still not ones I think are remotely canon.

Maybe "would be cool if this happened" theories? Although Regulus being Crookshanks was definitely a crack theory.

What were some of your old theories? (Both crack theories and serious ones?)

[personal profile] owlbrigade1 cites this case in point:

Gotham police are at a loss to explain a sudden rise in animal themed costumed weirdos? Surely the explanation is the same as it is for the long standing animal themed weirdos? It is Gotham, it is what they do. People in animal costumes wreaking havoc is practically a city tradition.

Context, to no one's surprise, involves Harley Quinn.

So. I'm resurrecting that meme from a while back of all the in progress things you have going on. Because I feel like I've been writing stuff, but really I've been thinking about the stories and then adding a couple words here and there to a dozen stories at once.

Now for the fun twist - if you see something you want to read more of, tell me in comments and I'll work on more tonight and post it.

Short stuff in progress
The Dragon Age stuff

post-Awakenings, Cousland Warden: Alistair arrives with more recruits (Anders POV)
Origins, Ian Tabris: Camp with Sten and Alistair
Awakenings, Ian Tabris: Dear Zev
Inquisition, Danielle Trevelyan: Advisors Council (Cullen POV)
Inquisition, Danielle Trevelyan: Recruits (Cullen POV)
Inquisition, Danielle Trevelyan: In Sera's Wake
Inquisition, Danielle Trevelyan: Iron Bull and the Chargers
Inquisition, Danielle Trevelyan: Aftermath of the dreadnought run
Inquisition, Danielle Trevelyan: Exalted Plains with Bull and Dorian
Inquisition, Danielle Trevelyan: Ian and Zevran arrive
The Inquisition Job, Leverage crossover: Joining the Inquisition

Teen Wolf

Werewolf!Sheriff #5: Constructive Interference, or Derek gets a job

Merlin
dark!Merlin/Arthur non-con sequel to Look Into the Light

Long stuff in progress
Teen Wolf
Excerpt from the giant Derek builds a pack story that's currently stalled

The 100/Teen Wolf
Excerpt from the giant fusion crossover where the 100 kids crash into Laura Hale's territory

These are all the ones that feel active. I have a few half-formed ideas for Sense8 (Will and Wolfgang taking care of each other was the one that stuck in my head), and Black Sails (I want all the post-s4 John/Madi reconciliation fic but I don't want to write it), and Yuri on Ice domestic fluff (that other people have already written so), and some older long stories (Merlin) and short stories (Leverage) that have kind of been backburnered off my radar, but I'm willing to talk ideas too. Basically, I just want to talk story ideas even if they never come to anything, and I might just start talking of all the fic that never was or has yet to be anyway.

Waking up without any major responsibilities or outstanding obligations is a rare pleasure. I finished my classwork yesterday afternoon, and I don't have work today, so the most I should get done is to pack and prepare for the con this weekend. Which won't take long. I could've gone to the movies, but since I'm all done with classes for a good few weeks, I'll do that later - since Spider-Man will be playing for a while, but the cherries in the fridge won't last nearly that long.

Baking, cleaning, exercising, packing, and if time allows, writing. I wouldn't want to do this every day, but once in a while, it's nice to luxuriate.

Would anyone be interested in betaing something for me? It's a Steve/Peggy AU, about 12,500 words, some canon-typical violence. I just want to be sure there are no egregious plot holes and that the voice/characterisation rings true.
