My day with Mum

Mom is spendng the night at my place. We spent the day in Napa.

Mom had told me last night that she wanted to be here by 9am. Surprise, surprise, she was running late. Perhaps a few hours late, in restrospect.
We got hungry around Vacaville, so we stopped for lunch and had In 'n Out. Yes, I had a burger on a bun and it was divine! Then we ended up at Eddie Bauer getting some clothes. I'll try those on tomorrow.

The next stop was the Dansk outlet in Napa. Mom wanted to look at dishes. I purchased a marble slab for all my hawt pastry/dough needs.

Yeah yeah. I'm on the South Beach Diet and I'm thinking of pastries. Life without pastries once in a while would be nasty, brutish and short.

I'm down a total of 22 pounds, now. But we'll see what happens after today. :-)

After the Dansk outlet, we took a drive up to Saint Helena. It was about 4pm by then. My mother had never seen the V.Sattui winery, which is a great place for picnics, wine, and food. They have an awesome little deli there with cheeses, etc. So, you can buy lunch, a bottle of wine, some souvenirs if you want to, then have a charming picnic lunch.

We really only had time for wine-tasting at one vineyard, for most of the wineries close their tasting rooms at about 5pm. So we tasted at V. Sattui. We must have sampled 7 or 8 wines. They were quite good. So I have increased my collection o' vino by about 7 bottles of various wine goodness.

Then we discovered the Dean and Deluca across the street. I left with unsweetened cocoa, garlic olive oil, Dean and Delucca House Blend coffee beans, and Mixed Berry Balsamic Vinegrette. Yum.

After that, we continued north on 29 to explore more of Saint Helena, and up to Calistoga.

Allow me to say that the countryside takes my breath away. More crudely, if I lived there in one of those charming older homes, with a bedroom window view of those vineyards and rolling hills, I'd probably have an orgasm just on that alone. Okay, maybe I have a nature fetish. Fine. I have a nature fetish.

Afterwards, we headed southbound on 29 again to begin our trek back home and find dinner. We were both in the mood for mexican food, so we found a place called Red Hen Cantina. Shrewd judgement would dictate that a mexican restaurant should have an authentic sounding name, we threw caution to the wind. It wasn't that bad. The food was better than Chevy's, but then Chevy's chips and salsa rules.

So yes, it was a bad day for a diet.
