The world rages and swirls while I slumber

While my mother and I were in southeast Elk Grove at Palermo on Saturday night, a nutjob was off shooting strangers about a mile from where I live.

Aaron Dunn killed a man at Mandango's, which is about 60 feet from where I get my daily cup o' Peet's coffee. Fortunately, I do not get coffee on Saturday nights.

So, while I was enjoying a lovely crab ravioli, a few miles away, a woman watched a stranger shoot her husband dead.

This is the kind of fun I am happy to miss out on. If I were still in town, I would have shown up to Peet's this morning, likely seeing some remnants of a crime scene, and traumatized employees still stunned over the situation.

God, I've said it three times today. I'll repeat it: PEOPLE SUCK.

I only think a small percentage of people suck. After all, if all people sucked, this type of item wouldn't be news. It would be the standard morning greeting.

Someone posted in a motorcycle community about how a man driving a van got road rage and purposefully hit a guy on a bike. Said rider ended up dead.

WHY do you have to lose your temper with someone so bad you have to cause them physical harm? All this stuff I read about similar circumstances of mass murder and shooting and killing and maiming and rape and...it makes me lose faith in the world.

We were all eating dinner at Chevy's that night right across the street from Chili's. We were home safe and sound by the time of the shootings, but that still makes me go yikes.

I wonder if the old-timers have admitted that Elk Grove is no longer a small town by now.
