(no subject)

Now that the dirty truth of how we treat prisoners of war comes out, further fueling the hate of Iraqi insurgents, I'm sure the reports from Iraq are going to get better and better.

Reading about Nick Berg and the video of him getting beheaded on tape really creeps me out. He wasn't even a soldier. He cleaned communication towers for a living. They hate us all, and we're not giving them a reason not to.

I don't see how the Iraqi people are going buy into a liberal democracy in this fashion.

The absolute scariest thing of all of this is, I feel like it's the cold war all over again, with one very important difference.

This time, there are 2 people not afraid to push the button.

*sigh*

Pakistan has nukes, and I can easily see Iraq convincing them to either use them on us, or else GIVE them to Iraq.
I can also see W dumb enough to retaliate with our nukes. Or, worse, start shit, cuz he's that dumb and environmentally ignorant.

God help us all, WWIII is on our back door step. In all the 80's, I've never been this afraid.

I wish we'd just get World War 3 under way already. Christ, I've been waiting for the apocalypse since the 80's. At this rate, by the time America is bombed into a wasteland, I'll be too old to even compete in one of the festive fights to the death in the Thunderdome, much less escape the clutches of Tina turner and lead a rag-tag pack of survivors to freedom. Hell, I'll be too old to even try to outrun guys with mowhawks and shotguns who chase me in dune buggies.

Dude. We don't need another Hero.

I know a couple from Iraq who think the whole thing is blown out of proportion, of course her father was tortured and killed in one of Saddam's prisons and he was a prisoner for a short while himself.

blown out of proportion, how?

They are very greatful to be rid of Saddam and grieve every time they hear an American is killed over there as if it were a member of their family. They feel like what was done in those pictures is nothing compared to what has been done to some of the American "heroes" and nothing compared to what was done to my friend and several of their family members while in Saddam's prisons.

You know what made me yell in my car a few minutes ago? Listening to NPR, the reporter said that the White House response was (and I just looked this up on MSNBC) "It shows the true nature of the enemies of freedom."

Because our way of treating prisoners has been so exemplary, right? Just like you said, we're not giving them reasons not to hate us. ARGH.

Or how about "I'm outraged about the outrage,"?

Ugh.
