Happy Saturday Morning to you all!
Biba was fantastic last night. Really, folks, if you have some money to spare for a culinary indulgence, and you're in Sacramento, I heartily recommend Biba. Biba Caggiano has been a fixture of Sacramento for years -- ever since I've been in this area, in fact. I moved here in 1981.
For Italian cooking, I recommend her cookbooks, as well. Biba herself was seen in the restaurant, as well. She still maintains an active role in the restaurant. And the service...excellent. Our waiter was a handsome and witty older Italian male. He ribbed a friend of mine because she was wavering between the halibut and the filet, and kept changing her mind, despite my reassurances that no matter which she chose, you will love what you have to eat. It truly is all good. She had settled on the filet, but did not eat it entirely, and he said, "No dessert for you. " When the dessert menus went around, he handed us all the leatherette dessert portfolios, except hers did not contain the dessert pages. He handed them to her at the end, but the joke was very charming.
After Biba, a few of us went to Ink for a libation and discussion. I rang up
taogrl and she came and joined us for the banter.
I also heard a story that reminded me of how people who appear quite normal and responsible and healthy can still be plagued with problems of their own making. I think Socrates will always be right on this count: the unexamined life is not worth living. Out of that, you get hypocrisy and shame and lies. Ah yes, the unbearable lightness of being, indeed.
I have a drum lesson and practice in my immediate future, a potential rendezvous with the carpenter about my entertainment center building project, and an afternoon with Mom, perchance going to the Vacaville Outlet Stores for some christmas shopping.
I hope everyone's day is progressing in a magnificent fashion. I also know that for some, having a magnificent day is impossible or highly difficult. To those folks, I send extra hugs, love, and the wish that each day improves upon the previous day.
Of course, there has to be a limit to magnificence. Too much magnificence can lead to spontaneous combustion, shortness of breath, and possibly chaffing.
