Transmetropolitangent

So, after work, I went over to Crepeville to "get my crepe on" and read. I brought with me book 2 of Ellis' "Transmetropolitan". I made it about 75% through the book before I felt it was time to take care of other errands. However, I came across this quote that I rather enjoyed:

This is Spider Jerusalem, about to attend a convention of varying new-fangled religions. My favorite? The Bretharians.

I am sick of being doorstepped, buttonholed and begged at by the Religions.

I am sick of the city's loose change and spare sanity sucked up and lived off by an ever increasing pile of parasitical shit-ticks incapable of standing up and dealing with the world on their own.

Wow. He said "shit-ticks".

Of course, I do not feel that this represents all religions. I think there are some exceptions. But there are definitely some folks and faiths that warrant the criticism.

A friend of mine just gave me the first two books. Same guy who gave me Moore's "Watchmen." I'm looking forward.

While sometimes I find Ellis to be a hack and superflous, Transmetropiltan will always stand as pure genius... even if it is mostly just a futuristic comic book version of Hunter S. Thompson.
