Boston Legal and Intelligent Design?

I was just watching part of Boston Legal while getting ready for work. Apparently the Intelligent Design issue is being brought up, and Schmidt appeared to be arguing in favor of it as an issue that should be brought up in the science class.

I'll have to re-watch it just to see what lead up to that closing argument.

If scientists were the one bringing this theory into the science classrooms, I'd be less skeptical of it. However, it appears to be driven mainly by people of faith.

It doesn't matter if there is a God or not, really, because his existence cannot be tested. Therefore, the notion of whether or not a Supreme being jumpstarted our lives millions of years ago is somewhat moot until we can test the hypothesis.

you'll never be able to "prove" the existence of God with a test. Otherwise, there is no reason for faith.

Exactly. Hence its inappropriateness in the science classroom.

Bingo!

I agree with you completely there. If they want to teach theology, that's fine...but keep religious theories out of the science classroom.

Yeah. It might be a good myth, but it's junk science.

Don't get me started

ID is little more than the argument from design in new clothes. Scientists rejected it in the 18th century when William Paley put his 'watchmaker' argument forward, and they reject it now.

Damn, now I have to find that episode of Boston Legal...

Exactly. I have it on my tivo, but my tivo to go isn't fired up yet, so I can't transfer it in a non-vhs format. ;-)
