Attention Scarlet Bedpan members: we have a new winner!

Well, the Scarlet Bedpan award has been dormant for a while, but I think we have a new winner.

The winner is [livejournal.com profile] city_glitter, who pulled a hoax on many of her friends and their friends recently. As you can see by the link to her post O' confession, she had a reason for her hoax: to prove to her family that strangers are very compassionate. What did she do exactly? If you didn't comprehend it with her post, she claimed her cat was set on fire by some deviant, and that she had $5000 in vet bills to repair her cat. Thanks to the joy of the Internet, many people ponied up a lot of money because they were moved by her story.

First of all, she's an idiot. Second of all, she's definitely her father's daughter, because he's an idiot for losing all faith in humanity. If you truly believe that all people suck, then you need to get out more. Every moron knows that the "homeless fools" who prop themselves up at intersections to collect cash donations pull in a lot of money, demonstrating that people can be moved towards compassion at any given time.

As for how she did this, she absolutely did not have to actually collect money to determine people's willingness to contribute money.

In looking at her confession, there are still some people who have forgiven her. And that's fine, I suppose, but still, she's a moron.

Because of her lack of thinking things through (which I feel is bullshit, especially since she was betting in favor of people being generous and helpful) I bestow upon her, in addition to the Scarlet Bedpan, the coveted Scarlet Assberet.

How sad for her that she got caught in her lie before she could tell us it was all a hoax.

Oh, yeah...

You definitely need to fire up an e-mail to the mailing list about that.

I find this very discouraging. I remember that someone in a comment once suggested the possibility that what I was writing was fiction, and I wondered how they could think that. Now I know.

Yes, I was discouraged by this, as well. What a great way to demonstrate the compassion of strangers: by making fools of them.

Anbd I don't think she has a clue about what a sucky thing it was that she did.

of course, people do this shit all the time. writing, pleading, people on the street here in NY. everyone has a sob story, and 90% of them are false. so that unfortunately leaves you in the position of being wary, as people use charity as just another means to take advantage of you. sad lot we humans.

Daaamn. Why isn't this on LJ Drama yet?! That's huge.

Love the Assberet. Does one wear it before or after using their coveted Scarlett Bedpan? Kudos for enhancing this already prestigious award.

They might even wear it while poised over the bedpan. Yeah, I enjoyed making that picture. It was an interesting experience to transpose an ass onto a beret. Transferring the textures was amusing, too. It also involved me lookint a an awful lot of pictures of asses to find an ideal ass for my photo.

I have enough excitement in my life. I don't need to create more!

Dude, I am not even going to comment on chica's blatant asshaterry, which has completely blown me away. I'm just going to ask why, if she's so all-fired sorry, isn't she giving the money back? And what the hell is up with all of the "I'll be contacting all of the big important newspapers about this" lefthanded famewhoring? And why (I haven't read all of the comments, just the first page) the HELL are people being nice to her?

Gah! My brain hurts...

[identity profile] rocketmelee.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wait. She has returned at least some of the money. STILL. GAH.

[identity profile] weaktwos.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The fact of the matter is, she was an idiot, and only came clean after she had been found out. She's got no choice but to return that money. We won't know if she was intending to rip people off or not. That she couldn't tell her friends about her plan is ridiculous. A) they probably would have advised her against it, or helped her come up with a less damaging test and B)Her friends should have been in the loop because they would already come to her aid.

This was just phenomenally crazy.

LMFAO!!!! That is hillarious. Whose fault is it anyway for sending in money without first researching it? I would never give anything to anyone like that, no matter what their story, without some evidence that it was true. Good for her. The people who just couldn't resist that warm fuzzy feeling that they get by thinking they've done something good are the true idiots here.
