South Dakota and Abortion

One of my friends pointed to this video which features an interview with Bill Napoli , a legislator of South Dakota.

It's rather scary to hear what he views as the valid exception for abortion is. But it is also interesting to hear him talk about how when he grew up in the "wild west".(by the way, he probably grew up in the wild 50s...) That when a man got a woman pregnant out of wedlock, that man married that woman. And the whole neighborhood got involved in the wedding. (were shotguns involved)

And Bill yearns for those good old days.

Of course, what has been keeping South Dakota from making laws that force neighborhoods to ensure that children have two parents? Does this mean divorce is outlawed if children are involved?

This notion of state's rights with regard to abortion intrigues me. Especially when abortion is mainly an individual decision. Yes, yes, I know proponents of birth believe abortion is murder.

I'm wondering if those of us in pro-choice states can start an "adopt a woman" fund, where we can help single women who are fed up with backwards states relocate to a state that allows them to make their own decisions with regard to their bodies.

It's a great idea to "adopt a woman", but I don't think it will matter where any of us live in a few years. We've taken the first step down a very slippery slope.

First? We're falling, have been for about 5 years. Falling from a cliff; this is just another outcropping jutting from the side that we hit.

*looks for the 'Reset Country' button

You know, the Constitution gives us the right to overthrow the government if we saw fit to. I keep wondering if the time is approaching when that's what we're going to have to do.

This South Dakota business is really scary and we can only hope (and pray?) that it backfires on them. I've got a very bad feeling about it though.

I like the "adopt a woman" idea.

that whole SD thing is pretty scary -- like a giant leap backwards -- brings to mind The Handmaids Tale

I actually like the 'adopt a woman' project, save for the fact that 75% of the population would rather SIT and do nothing and take the bullshit they are forcefed than get up and do something about it. We'd have to probably PHYSICALLY drag the women away from their homes for their own betterment.

Ai yah.

"Does this mean divorce is outlawed if children are involved? "

Well, back in 'the good ole' days' there was massive social presure not to get divorced, not to mention huge legal roadblocks. I imagine he would like to see a return of that, too.

I love the adopt a woman idea. We could convert all current abortion clinics into bus-station to take women discreetly across state lines.

People just don't get it. You can't give people a freedom, a right, let them experience it for 30 years and then think you can take it away from them. No sense of history at all...
