If you like bands like Evanescence, there's a group called Lacuna Coil that's really good (their new album Karmacode is excellent). Nightwish is good and in the same vein, though it's more like a female opera singer with a heavy metal band.
If you like happy/bouncy/ska type music, Saving Ferris is really good.
If you want something amusing, there's an ABBA tribute album called ABBAmetal that's quite entertaining. Nothing like hearing a death metal band sing "S.O.S." lol
I've recently gotten into a musician called Voltaire that I really like. His voice reminds me of Danny Elfman from Oingo Boingo, and he uses a lot of violin. His songs "The Vampire Club" and "It's Not Easy Being Evil" are great stuff. :)
Craig Chaquico. Smooth jazz electric-acoustic guitar work.
Seeed. German techno-ish reggae dancehall rap.
Blackmore's Night. Renaissance Faire-ish minstrel music, with modern instruments and keyboards added to the mix.
Poets of the Fall. Finnish rock band with incredibly catchy tunes.
Bjorn Lynne. English musician with an incredible output of music in many different styles, mostly electronic.
Gordian Knot. Experimental progressive metal with heavy jazz influences and very complex song structures. Instrumental.
OSI. Supergroup progressive metal band, featuring Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Kevin Moore (ex-DT), and Jim Matheos (Fates Warning). Like a harder-edged Fates, but with Kevin instead of Fates's Ray Alder on vocals.
