Avenue Q

C and I packed into the Prius and headed off to the Orpheum in San Francisco today. Our mission: to enjoy Avenue Q.

Oh, it was fantastic!

If you loved Sesame Street, but also love irreverence, this show is for you.

The opening song sets the tone: "What Do You Do with a B.A. in English?" This musical, I think, expresses the sentiments of the average joe whose life isn't spectacular, who isn't always going to have their dreams come true and who must learn that ultimate happiness is perhaps as practical as believing in unicorns. That said, it leaves plenty of room for growth and hope.

And the puppets were fantastically fun. Trekkie Monster (Cookie Monster), Lucy the Slut, Rod and Nicky (Bert and Ernie). I wonder if Princeton was Guy Smiley before the bad magic tricks and tv announcer career. The cast was endearing and very adroit at conveying muppemotions. See it if you have a chance!

Oh, it's so much fun. Y'all need to make a "musical savings account" so you can dash up and catch one when a good one comes to town. I show it coming to Raleigh May 6- May 11 2008...

Check AvenueQ.com for more info!
