Mom's Birthday Weekend
It was my mother's birthday on Thursday. Her birthdate, oddly enough, is 1/23/45. No other birthday will rival such coolness until the year 4567, in which case, someone will have the birthday 1/23/4567. There may be debate as to whether or not the human species will exist still at that time.
Anyway, that day I "celebrated her birthday" by going out and playing billiards at a friend's house with some other buddies. Last night I had dinner with mum and her other friends at the Hukilau Grill. She enjoyed herself.
Today I'm having her over for the bulk of her birthday spoiling. Since she's never partaken of my mushroom and shrimp stuffed salmon in a flaky crust, I will be endeavoring to make a smaller version of this dish for her edification. She's a lemon meringue pie enthusiast, so I will be preparing that for her as well. She'll be able to spend the rest of the day lounging and enjoying herself. I can even ply her with alcohol, and she doesn't have to worry about driving home fluthered.
The guest room is prepared, the doughs are chilling, the gifts are wrapped. Now to make the pie custard.
