Nader and Michigan
Jul. 20th, 2004 09:11 amThe Republican Party in Michigan has turned in 43,000 signatures to get Ralph Nader on the Ballot. Nader's own supporters came up with 5400 signatures. The state requres 30,000.
I don't like this at all. It's not about fair representation. It's about Republicans assuming that Nader will draw the democratic votes from Kerry. I don't think this should have a place in our election process. What else shall happen that will demonstrate our electoral system is a joke?
Maybe it really doesn't matter, given the electoral college. But still, who signed that petition to get Nader on the ballot? Maybe 5400 were true Nader supporters. But do you really thing 48400 suppport Nader? Or will those 43000 signatures vote Republican?
There needs to be some changes.
