Oh, those medication commercials
Oct. 5th, 2004 07:50 amI think my favorite, yet most frightening part about medication commercials is the chipper way in which risks of side effects are discussed. I just saw a commercial for Wellbutrin XL. The most important thing the advertisers want us to know is that there is a low risk of sexual side effects. Huzzah!
And then I thought that perhaps the phrase "sexual side effects" is a little vague. I mean, if by virtue taking the Wellbutrin makes you more prone to meeting people...people you're attracted to sexually, then I count that as a sexual side effect. I think most people would want a high risk of that.
However, there's a slight risk of seizure. And then sexual side effects collided with risk of seizure in my brain, and I imagined an overlap of imagery. Hopefullly the seizure risk never materializes, and most certainly at inopportune moments.
