This type of news really pisses me off.
Okay, I know war is hard. War is hell. Nothing new, there. Unilaterally taking over a country and trying to stabilize it is a huge undertaking. One I would never recommend for a democratic nation. A fascist nation could handle it, but once your leader who makes such a decision goes bonkers and commits suicide, you have to answer for your national sins, anyway. So, regardless, invading a nation is bad juju, no matter how you cut it.
But this...losing known stockpiles of explosives that are now being used against us is just downright incompetent. Supposedly, we knew of these stockpiles, the International Atomic Energy Agency knew of it, and reminded us of the existence of these explosives. But still, we let them go unchecked.
Granted, we didn't have a plan after we won the invasion, but this should have been part of the initial invasion plan.
If you know dangerous explosives are located in Iraq, secure those first!
The paranoid side of me thinks this is intentional. I know our government can be smarter than this. I know our military should know better. I know they can do better.
But then again, maybe they are spread too thin. It is chaotic over there.
I really don't think we should have started this war. But now I feel we have made the situation worse in Iraq. I don't like the thought of abandoning this situation now and leaving the mess behind. But we really need to start working the problems properly. I think this situation only affirms that we have a serious leadership vacuum in this country. Come November 2nd, we need to "fire" the current administration.
