This is interesting: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&e=1&u=/nm/20040126/ts_nm/security_patriotact_dc

It’s nice to see some Judicial action against the “Patriot” Act.

In other news, I apparently offended the masculine sensibilities of two men today. I was going downstairs, they were coming upstairs, and we were exiting the same door. Since I got to the door first, and the timing of me opening the door, I let them go before me. One of the guys made some comment about this being some sort of “women’s lib” thing. I replied, “No. I got to the door first.”

Do issues of gender equality really need to manifest themselves in the opening of a door? If I had to choose between some dude opening the door for me, or getting equal pay for equal work, I’ll open my own damn door. It’s not that hard. What’s wrong with demonstrating a little decency and generosity to your fellow human being? And if opening the door on my behalf is such a treat, I’m sure you’ll get your chance. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate chivalrous actions. I just like giving them as much as receiving them. When I can, that is. If some fellow is lugging a huge box of stuff, I probably won’t offer to carry it for him. Most likely because if he can’t carry it, I probably can’t either. Yes, that is correct. I will not get a hernia for the cause.

I've held doors open for men before and never had that kind of rude reaction. What are you supposed to do, shut the door in his face?

Come to think of it, maybe you should have after what he said. ;)

I'd say part of being free is being able to accept a kind gesture. I've gotten dirty looks for offering to carry boxes and such.

I'm assuming this happened at work, what jerks. Just shows that the place is going to hell in more ways than one.

Dammit. Too bad they were through the door when I said it, otherwise I would have pushed 'em down the stairs!

Exactly. I don't hobble the dude who is so kind to open the door for me. I say thank you.

Aye, that it did...from the famous twit whose last name rhymes with Dorkman. I will not let him sour my perception of my work environment. He's just a blip on the radar.
