Thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] scarcrest for linking to the following article.

I need to figure out who I need to gripe to in our government about this. Including anti-abortion legislation in a spending bill at the last minute is hideous. While I am sure the democrats have done something similar, we need to come up with a way to take the bullshit out of bills. They should involve one issue only, and not have other crap piggy-backed onto it. It's situations like this where a Senator might be compelled to vote against an otherwise decent spending bill because a human rights issue is nailed onto the tail end of it.

Oooh, this just pisses me off.

Didn't read the article, but I agree with your comment. I think riders should not be allowed to be added to bills. Perhaps, maybe, I'd let them add ones if they could be *proven* to be related to the topic, but for things like spending bills, you could prove just about anything... so, no riders.

yeah it is a pretty crappy way of authoring bills, but pretty much that is the way it works. we can't get campaign finance reform and this is a great way for people to get shit they otherwise wouldn't be entitled to, one hand washes the other.
