Avogadro's Number

Thanks to a lovely conversation with dslartoo while he was supposed to be working, I was either reminded, or learned for the first time, of Avogadro's number. For those who are forgetful/ignorant like I am, Avogadro's Number is 6.022 x 10²³. That is to say, for any given chemical substance, there are 6.022 x 10²³ molecules per gram mole.

A lesser known fact of Amadeo Avogadro is that he is a descendent of Gollum¹.



And an ancestor of Betty Davis².

Now you know.³

Ah yes, good ol' Avogadro's number...I will always remember 10 to the 23rd, but it's 6-something to me...haven't used it since Chem1A my freshman year in college...many moons ago!

It's amazing how many moons keep falling in between high school, college, and now. Well, it's not amazing really, but still, it is.
