Oh yes. Work today was nutty-mcnuttalicious. I'll be here until 8pm, likely. Working on Sunday is a given, too. But, I have my health, so far.

Cool, thank you. :) Probably deal with it around the time I move in so I am not offline for too long - maybe I will order the cable modem installed & get the wireless stuff before the move, then all we have to do is hook it up afterward.

yeah, it should be easy peasy. Maybe a wireless usb adapter for the computer and then a wireless access point at the cable modem.

Sounds good. My coworker suggested Linksys. Best Buy has routers & adapters on sale for $49 each. I have no idea what these things cost.

The prices of the routers and adapters can vary, but that sounds like a fine deal. Also, speed is an issue. For latest/faster wireless speeds, the price will shoot up.

Like this is reasonable, but not the fastest wireless speeds out there (wireless n is faster than wireless g), but it's good: Linksys - Wireless-G MIMO Router with SRX200

But the compatible usb adapter is 70 bucks.

But wireless g is fine for most streaming video and net surfing. Because frankly cable modem may only be able to deliver 30 mbps at a maximum, knowing that you may never reach that point, and the wireless g goes up to 54 mbps
Maybe you should price DSL... It might be cheaper.

nothing except a slight speed advantage with the cable modem, and a cost advantage on the dsl. Dsl is offered through the phone company, traversing over their twisted pair wiring. Cable goes over coax. The speed difference between cable and dsl is potentially theoretical, as bandwidth can go down with many cable users in the same neighborhood.

Well, comcast is no angel, either. If surewest is half the cost, I'd get that instead. I've had two friend with surewest, and I don't hear a lot of complaints.

Cool. I will look into it. My dad had DishTV or DirecTV, which I was going to replace with cable, but my coworker says Dad probably had to buy the dish. I guess I will have to get my brother to show me how the channel changer works & how to find the other channels. :/

Yeah, and if it has the service you want, cool. I only went with cable because of my love for the Tivo Series 3. Otherwise I'd still be with directTV.

Then again, if Surewest is in the neighborhood for dsl, what about fiber? Surewest is the provider for fiber optic services in my area.

Just checked the SureWest site and they only do high-speed internet access for my neighborhood - 7525 Garden Gate Drive, zip 95621. No DSL.

High speed is DSL. It's just not the highest speed. ;-)

Yeah, go with comcast, the prices are not as reasonable as I thought. Then you get a ten dollar discount on comcast when you subscribe to television programming too.
