Half of the day has gone by in this course that I have been compelled to attend by my management. While it is a good exercise that we are going through, I think there are some issues they can improve upon.

Number 1: Executive management should not have to continuously remind us that our benefits are the best. That should be obvious. An employee will find that out on their own. Use your breath to communicate some important company matters, like how we're going to make my job more interesting.

I get the impression that our executives are bitter that we did not make the 100 best places to work in Fortune Magazine. Get over it. If our benefits are so hot, and we still didn't make the 100-best list, chances are it is not about the benefits.

They are asking us to keep a list of "takeaways" or insights we may experience during this class. One thing I notice is that executives are people too. Furthermore, they are not the best people for the job. I think any one of us could replace them. Part of this effectiveness exercise may well be intended to show us that "hey, it's hard up at the top" and that they aren't malicious people trying to screw us over.

The fact of the matter is, they are human, and they have the authority to make those changes. Truly, I think that some people make better leaders than others.
