Feb. 20th, 2003 10:34 pmThe final night of my trip to San Antonio has past. In 5 hours I'll be up again and on my way to the airport, and hopefully safely back home.
My trip here was a success. It helped me to reevaluate some aspects of myself.
Number one, I love having intelligent friends. The Guitarist is a joy to converse with. We share a love of books, music, and current events. If I could find a man like that for my own, I would be a happy woman indeed, barring some of his idiosyncracies.
Last night, we went to Benihana. Our teppan chef was hispanic. This is to be expected in Texas, I presume. Subsequent to that, we went to Borders and Barnes and Noble to search for Yu-gi-oh cards (sp?). We didn't find those, but we did find the first two seasons of Mr. Show on DVD. We acquired our preferred latte's and shuttled back to our hotel and proceeded to watch some of the episodes and suffer laugh-induced incontinence.
Today, after work, I took him to the airport. He invited me to come out to Phoenix for St. Patrick's day weekend. He's having a wine-tasting party. Worth considering.
Business talks about thriving on change. Really, we all thrive on good changes. It's the changes that suck we don't thrive on. Basically, we must help others see the big picture benefits, and to learn to take care of their careers properly. And goals. Goals. I'm sick and tired of highly paid executives coming up with goals that reward the wrong behavior. They let their reporting managers become slaves to goals that are not healthy in the long run. Let's give a helpdesk the goal to answer 350 calls per person per day. Let's only give them 1.5 minutes to take care of the call and not resolve the problem so the user does not feel compelled to call back. Let us hire managers who are not innovative in their thinking, too.
