Well, I'm up and not quite at 'em.

I read the first vignette of the Sandman: The Dream Hunters.

I'm hungry.

I hit Empire Comics yesterday in my errand-like travels. I came upon the second issue of Blood and Water. It is a rather cute little five issue comic series that Vertigo put out. It's about a fellow who has been plagued by health problems relating to hepititis, etc. He's had to lead a rather sad existence as a result of his problems. Towards the end he's miserable, and two of his friends turn out to be Vampires. As luck would have it, the life of a Vampire is much like being a rockstar, but with more sunscreen. The writers have a little variation on the Vampire rules of conduct.

Yes, I'm still a sucker for Vampire stories.

And another thing:
It is one of life's small joys to watch my cat lay in a ray of sunlight and play with his toy towell.

Judd Winick, the writer (co-writer?) of that comic, was on MTV's The Real World the season they were in San Francisco. He was roommates with Pedro Zamora, the AIDS activist who died shortly after the series ended its initial run. He's done a lot of comics writing in recent years, including Green Lantern and an upcoming run writing Green Arrow (following Kevin Smith and novelist Brad Meltzer).

He's also a talented illustrator. His book Pedro and Me is very moving, alternately hilarious and heart-rending. And his Barry Ween, Boy Genius books are brilliant -- the profanity of South Park with the comic genius of Calvin and Hobbes.
