Today began with mixed excitement and quiet desperation. I would have to survive a 10 hour day at work with the bristling excitement of my impending trip to Europe. In 48 hours, I will be in London.

There wasn't a lot of work for me, but I felt I shouldn't call in sick nonetheless, in case my coworkers needed me. So, off to work I went.

I finished my tasks by 10am. I also went to the credit union and acquired travel cashola. I chatted with coworkers, piddled about. I had 8 more hours to go. I decided to run an errand and resolve my laptop issue.

For those readers keeping up, my laptop up and died last night. Best Buy promised to replace my laptop with like quality. However, there was no like quality available at the Elk Grove store. They also suggested I would have to pay any additional cost of a better quality laptop. Time for plan B. I kept my deadtop and took it to work with me. I left for a quickie errand before lunch time to the Sacramento Best Buy. I gave them the same story. They tested it out, and concurred that the laptop is indeed an ex-laptop. The deja-vu continued when we went to look at their available stock of shiny new laptops. They too seemed to be missing a laptop of like quality. The closest one was $350 more expensive.

Luck was on my side at the Sacramento store. This lad, Tony, went off and chatted with his manager and got approval to give me the better laptop at no additional cost.

So, let's review the situation:

Specs of dearly departed: AMD 1800, 512MB Ram, 30gig HD, DVD-CDRW,
Specs of new laptop: P4 2.0Ghz, 512MB Ram, 40Gig HD, DVD-CDRW.

Yeah!

To celebrate, I brought the new laptop into work for "stress testing" via a DVD of the history of West Point. My company funded it in part, so I figure it was only my company duty to watch it during the work day. Fascinating stuff. It is worthy to note that some of the greatest generals in our history were not the top of their class. The exception was General Rober E. Lee, who was #2 in his class.

After work, I trotted off to REI to pick up a new pair of shoes for walking all over London and Paris and then met Baby Doc at Ernestos for dinner and fine conversation. We discussed her trip to China, etc. Then we wondered over to the Nake Lounge for tea. More discussion ensued, with two men nearby eavesdropping in our conversation.

All told, a fine day. Now, to do some pre-packing laundry, practice guitar, watch some BBC, and then off to bed.
