This morning's [livejournal.com profile] doonesbury is rather amusing. Aww heck, I've been enjoying the whole series he's been doing of late.

I finally decided to get on the haiku bandwagon, and have been writing an assortment of haikus related to my thoughts over the course of today.

I have one question, though, to any haiku experts, about passed tense. I'm assuming these would count as one syllable, but correct me if I'm wrong:

backed
shocked

What about "changed"? One or two. It feels like two to me...

These haikus were written throughout the day, and they reflect observations about some of the things I had to do, and some of the things I read.

Enjoy, or cringe.

Tonight I went to the gym. While sweating my happy heart out, listening to some fast-paced music to keep me hoppin', I watched the television. Celine Dion's Vegas show opened recently. The gym television is captioned. I take mild joy in watching for typos, because on occasion, the typist really messes up. (assuming there is a human involved, and not some speech to text software).

Anyway, based on the caption typist, Celine is also known as:

-Cell 18
-Selling

Sounds good

I told the OED online to bring forth any word that was considered slang. The OED gives me date of origin of the word, as well.

I am happier than a pig in slop with this search feature.

Trivia:

-Ball-buster: slang for "domineering female" showed up in our vocabulary around 1954. The first known quotation of ball-busting appeared in 1944.
-Who has ever heard of the word "banjax"? If you haven't heard it before, it's to batter or destroy. First seen in captivity in 1939.
-When did barf show up in our vocabulary. 1960.
-Ah, in the 1440s, you might have called a swindler a bat-fowler. While swindled is fun to say. Bat-fowler is a verbal party.
-Men started referring to women's breasts as "bazooms" in 1950.
