Highlights from the Mark Morford article:

"Unfortunately, protection of our values is made more difficult when mixed messages emanate from the White House," oozed FRC prez Tony Perkins as he fondled a small porcelain statuette of a young Greek boy and cooed quietly.

"Finally, an excuse to parade around the Senate floor in my full-length taffeta ball gown and gyrate to Paul Oakenfold remixed while flagellating myself with a Children's Illustrated Bible!" Santorum exclaimed excitedly before being quickly shot by Justice Antonin Scalia. "Damn gay pheasants," Scalia muttered satisfactorily, after which he consumed a positively enormous plate of baby-seal meat.

Meanwhile, the nation watched in nauseated horror as many of the speakers at the Republican National Convention pretended to be all open minded and moderate, when every even slightly attuned, articulate, progressive, open-hearted person you know in the world understands that this is the most war-happy, secretive, deceptive, censoring, neoconservative, gay-hating, human rights-destroying, happily repressive administration in the last 100 years.

Woo! He was on quite a flight of fancy. Good fun.

I went shoe shopping today. Mostly to get some new Joseph Seibel shoes...which are THE BOMB.

But then I was overcome by some weird, twisted nostalgia. In addition to purchasing the shoes I went for, I also acquired these:

Fun. :-)

I started a little fire amongst a few people in [livejournal.com profile] 2004_elections. I'd like to know what you all think about it.

It revolves around the current hostage situation involving students and their parents in Russia.

I know it's a hideous act perpetrated by the Chechans, but then, I also know this is in response to a number of actions the Russians have performed against the Chechans. This conflict has origins dating back to the 17th century.

The point I was trying to make in the discussion, and I am unsure if I was successful, is that by continuing to react to each terrorist act like it is an isolated incident, and retaliating accordingly is not the solution to the problem of terrorism. It seems to me that the terrorism and violence will be perpetuated. When I look at the bigger picture, I can't tell who is truly at fault anymore. At some point, both sides need to make some concessions and be dedicated to not fighting each other. Dropping another bomb on the situation is not going to knock sense into anyone. There's just more fear, more authoritarianism, less freedom, and less life, and people growing up where violence is the norm.
