Napolean Dynamite
Mar. 13th, 2005 10:19 amYesterday I watched Napolean Dynamite. I've heard a lot of folks say good things about this movie. After I watched it, I felt rather ambivalent. Most of it seemed like it was just mocking losers that we would have seen in high school. These kids were victims of walking to the beat of a different drum. Unfortunately, they couldn't even play their own drum beat correctly. Of course, their family life kinda sucked, and lacked any real love.
There are some funny moments, like Uncle Rico (remember Lazlo from Real Genius?) playing an ex football player who never got past high school. Another perfect lesson that living in the past gets you a whole lot of nothin'. Or faux tupperware.
In the end, after we spend the whole time watching these people be incompetent, somehow they end up doing okay in the end, though I don't understand why.
All in all, some funny physical comedy, but fairly insubstantial, unless you enjoy mocking mediocrity.
