Tonight, I joined Binky and his amigos to see The Bourne Identity. First of all, it was an okay movie in its own right.

However, relative to the book, which was juicy delicious pulp, it was found lacking.

Marie, in the book, is an extremely bright and perceptive economist. In the movie, she's a ditzy gypsy from Germany. There is no vile antagonist like Carlos in the movie. That's a big loss. There is no secret nasty operation like Medusa. And they ripped off a plot point from The Replacement Killers.

So, if you read the book, you shall be disappointed.

After that, we went to Katmandu for Indian food.

It was most delightful, short of this nagging jaw problem I'm having. It started last night. I don't know what got out of whack, but if it doesn't work itself out by Sunday, I'll be calling the dentist to see what's going on. Every so often, usually after I eat, I get a nagging throbbing along the right side of my jaw. sometimes the upper, sometimes the lower jaw. It's really pissing me off.

Do you have TMJ?

Even if you don't, you may have something like what I've been experiencing--a general muscle tension that manifests itself in the jaw area. That's what we thought I needed the root canal for a few weeks back. It grows into extreme pressure, accompanied by pain all the way up to and including the ear and all the way down into the throat.

I don't have TMJ, but I sleep with a biteguard in as I bite so viciously when sleeping, I crack my teeth. (I guess it's the only time I let myself "go" after the rest of the day's tensions and pressures and all the life's sucking up I've had to do.) I'm letting it "out" now and it's killing my teeth. When this problem reared itself a few weeks ago, I'd just had the periodontist re-build the biteguard a week before and he had the bite uneven on the guard, so when I was coming down on it, I was killing my one back molar.

I took it into Misty's boss, my dentist, and she re-built it and now it's better. Still have occasional pain and pressure--but nowhere near as pronounced as before.

If you're a Type-A personality, which I suspect you would be, you should definitely sleep with a biteguard in. It'll save your mouth and you'll sleep better, too.

Forgot to mention what hastened the demise of the pain:

800 mg. twice daily of Motrin and a Z-pak of antibiotics. With both of those in tow, I managed to handle the pain. Then, the biteguard contributed, too.

I think I must've had some sort of infection as I swelled along the jawline, too. But, eating was especially painful, even though at first I didn't notice pain while sleeping or upon awakening. I, too, sleep like the dead. Probably why I never noticed how badly my teeth were doing...

Let me know what happens.

600mg of motrin and a mondo tumbler of Mike's Hard Lemonade did wonders for me. ;-)

I think it is a tooth thing. After the pain killers, that was the only thing that still felt odd.

Funny. I kept relating to the dental community that it "feels like something is caught in there" and they couldn't seem to get a handle on WHICH tooth it was--some day three would ache equally bad, others, only one was the most painful.

Regardless, I recommend seeing someone Monday, if you can. At the very least, the news will relax you and if it IS a muscle problem , the last thing you need is uncertainty and more tension in the muscles.
