Tonight's workout at the gym was pretty good. It felt good to workout the legs, to jog, etc.

I swung by Best Buy and acquired a combo dvd vhs player for my bedroom. The Apex dvd I had is starting to make very strange sounds. Plus, when I get direct tv in my bedroom this Friday, I'll then be able to port Tivo recordings onto vhs for my friends when they ask me to record shows for them.

I need an S video cable, me thinks.

Time for slumber.

I have a question: How, exactly, does this TiVo thing work? I mean, I know what it does...records shows, so you can edit out commercials, etc etc. What I am asking is what do you need to do in order to get it? The machine and what else? I'm just curious.

Okay, there's several options with regard to Tivo (there are other providers, too, like Replay TV, too, but I'm a Tivo gal)

1. Stand alone Tivo unit.
-Available in 40, 80, 140 gb drives.
-it's possible to hack and add hard drives, but it voides the warranty.
-It will work with cable or satellite via a serial connection or an infrared connection, depending on your cable/satellite receiver.
-you can opt to pay @ 13 bucks a month for the intelligent features of Tivo, or a lifetime fee of $300. The break even point for this is about 18 months. So if you feel you'll use Tivo for longer than 18 months, pay up front. But the lifetime fee only goes for the lifetime of that particular Tivo Box

Then you're all set. For an extra $100, you get the home network feature, which lets you put Tivo on the network. Add another $50 for a usb network adaptor, and yes, things are getting costly. But if you have the cash, it's so cool! You can stream your mp3s to your tivo to your stereo. You can also view photos from your computer. Best of all, you can remotely schedule programs. I think of programs to record all the time when I'm at work. I can just hop on the net and *bam* my program will record.

2. DirectTivo(with Direct TV as your provider). Provides you with a combo tivo and receiver for 99 bucks, and you pay 5 dollars a month for tivo features. This won't let you use the home network option...yet...I hope.

3.Combo DVD Burner and Tivo unit. This is pretty costly, and then you would pay the same additional fees for lifetime membership features and the home network.
