I always figured it was so the tribal leaders could get some play. 'Anyone who wants to guarentee that you won't be sacrificed, come back to my place!'

I would be volunteering for that, I suppose. No reasonable person could hold it against you. Instead of the excuse, "I was young and needed the money," I could say, "I was young, and needed to avoid ritual sacrifice."
