Well, with 4th of July coming up, I think I can understand why they didn't want to awaken the mammoth just yet. Can't you just see it -- there they are, up on the mountainside, and all of a sudden, "RAWR!", there goes the mammoth. In-sane! It'd totally steal everyone's thunder, yes indeedy.
