[livejournal.com profile] kellinator: Dragoncon comes but once a year. It's better than Christmas because it lasts four days.
[livejournal.com profile] weaktwos: By that analogy, it's only half as good as Hanukkah.

So, here we are at the Pink Palace. Or, for those into speaking French, Le Palais de Rose. But we're not, so fuck it. For those of you who have not seen the posts of my partners in Dragoncon crime ([livejournal.com profile] reannon, [livejournal.com profile] kellinator, or [livejournal.com profile] ariedana), the Best Western is dubbed the Pink Palace due to the choice of exterior paint. Once you cross the threshold into the box that is your room, it is your garden variety hotel room. Four people is a bit much for this room, however, it's doable.

There are three of us in the room right now. Two are feeling the adverse affects of over-indulgence. Me, I'm just feeling like taking a break. Though seeing my posts from the past few nights, you can all justifiably conclude that I have indeed been overindulging as well.

My utilikilt is on order. I dropped trou and got sized today.

I have seen the likes of Randall Schwartz, Warren Ellis, Peter David, Dr. Demento, Julie Benz, Elonka, and some others.

The interesting thing about cons, which I'm sure most of you have figured out, is that so many dorks of various types. Now, had they not all converged in this mecca of nerdy pursuits, they might have felt alone in their dorkiness. They are alone no longer. There is bound to be another person here whose freakiness aligns with yours. There's a degree of comfort in that.

Furthermore, you are guaranteed to experience or see something you have not seen before, unless you have been going to this con for years.

I've also learned why it gets the nickname of "Drama-con".

What is this Dragoncon thingie everybody is talking about? Lots of people on my friends list from around here are going. I take it that they have several of them across the country since you're going? Or did you, indeed, make your way to my neck of the woods?

Cool. For how long? Flying back out to CA Monday? I'd never get on a plane to go somewhere on the other coast for a weekend, unless I was being paid...

I leave tomorrow afternoon. I enjoy travelling and the interesting adventures or experiences they might bring.

Hickey, eh? Does this mean to get any "action" I need to go to an overnight con where there is such a variety of geeks? Any of the Trek cons I went to, albeit 10 years ago, were day trips only...maybe that was my mistake... ;)

Although it sounds oxymoronic, the key is overindulgence in moderation, right? Gotta do it sometimes, just can't do it every day...heh!

Yes, I do believe that if you wish to get action, you need to go to one of those overnight cons. Also, you need to have a few friends there who know other people who can hook you up to the nerd parties that go on at night. You're bound to find a nerd you might be interested in. And with alcohol to pave the way to more fluid communication, if you will, all is simple at that point.

Sounds a bit like the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) with their Alcohol Fueled Debauches- Tents, dancing girls, Arab Musicians (Quite good ones, too.) and Institutionalised Gropery- I can't tell you how many times I was mashed by some wench with an evil grin and intent. Helas, I was married,so I demurred, but many of my furry reprobate friends could be seen with a pair of lovelies on their lap and ferocious grins on their faces. Many of the same people attend both cons and SCA events- not unusual to see Klingons in Kilts.......Not period, but not unusual.

What other objective would one join the SCA, but to mingle and frolic with wenches and knaves? Why on earth were you a part of SCA if you were married?

Then again, many of the married folks here, or the relationship bound folks, are allowed to stray from their committments insofar as making out and fondling goes.

I joined the SCA because I wanted the company of hearty, stalwart men, Guys who knew how to swing a sword, sing in key and drink well. Wenching was very low on the list, Despite a wife who wanted me to take a Mistress. I was the retainer of the head of a household, the Axe-bearer and First man for my Master. That was the reason for joining the SCA, not the wenching- I've a former lovcer who is an homoree in the SCA, and she was responsible for getting me involved, but the Politics got me out. Getting laid wasn't the point. It was fighting and fellowship.
