[livejournal.com profile] kellinator reminded me of an experience I had with an arrogant little rich boy. Those of you who know me in person well have heard this story. [livejournal.com profile] taogrl may have heard it in person. We'll call him D143. D can be for Dimwit, or whatever derogatory word you wish to choose that begins with "D". 143 is purely arbitrary, but I'm sure, among my friends, you could identify 142 other individuals who are worthy of this title.

So D143 was a coworker. He didn't really have to work, his parents had wealth due to ownership of numerous popular carbohydrate crops here in the state. He was known for lacking in diplomacy.

Five years ago, I bought my own house. It's a small affair(1344 sq feet), but then I am a single woman, so that is a perfect size for my needs. What is key here, is that I bought this house with my own funds. I secured my loan on my own credit. My ability to do this was based on my own job that I had been working in for 6 years.

So, enter D143, who seemingly kindly enough asks me about my house, what it looks like, etc. This was the time when I was going through closing, and filled with excitement over purchasing my new home, so of course I readily disclosed my domestic details.

What was D143's response? Most polite people might say, "That's great!", "How charming!" or "Congratulations!".

He said, chuckling in some desperate form of triumph, "Your house could fit in my garage."

Gee, I had no idea he was asking the question to compete with me.

Everyone who heard him was pissed off on my behalf.

However, I was not going to remind him that he was a no-talent ass-clown who had no respect in our department. I was not going to ask him to imagine what he could afford if he did not have his family's income to augment his own little income. I was not going to ask him where he would be if they had not put him through college and paid for everything they needed. Why? Because given his comment, he knew the answers to those questions already.

Would it make you feel better to know that he got laid off, and it took him well over a year to get new work?
