On Veterans Day
Nov. 11th, 2004 05:06 pmAs other folks have said:
I am grateful for the sacrifices our soldiers make for our country. I admire their bravery and perseverence in the face of great and consistent discomfort in addition to the higher risk of dying (in likely painful ways).
On a lighter note, I'm grateful for so many handsome men looking so gorgeous in their uniforms. I know it would be horrible to have, like Israel, all men spend a few years in the military. But couldn't we just make it mandatory for all men to wear uniforms for two years during their youthful prime? Okay, I'll stop being a letch.
And I'm not too thrilled to hear about various television stations not airing "Saving Private Ryan" due to language issues. You can address all sorts of nastiness on prime time television, but drop the f-bomb on occasion, or show a breast, and suddenly we just cannot handle ourselves. However, a thought in the back of my mind over this issue: "Maybe these networks were thinking that ABC wanted to air 'Saving Ryan's Privates' instead of 'Saving Private Ryan'".
I was just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.
