Here I sit in between appointments. The drum lesson went well. The teacher threw some new cool action at me. Now to practice it.

I've been bitten by this bug to start doing research on getting the bad ass home theatre thing going with surround sound speakers. The home theatre in a box versus a customized, buy individual component type setup. I'm in no hurry, but the desire is there. Yes, it's a shallow desire relative to other stuff I think I should be doing.

I love my new garage door. It is pristine, unmarred, by past mistakes, like me trying to back out while the door is still closed. However, I miss the reminder of my shameful accident, and now fear that I will become complacent and careless and do it again. Hopefully I will continue to not forget.

I perused www.SorryEverybody.com. Some cute stuff on there. Some of it was melodramatic. Then again, if you're a nation (whether you're recognized as a valid state or not), that has citizens being tortured or killed by us, I suppose these apologies are not enough.

I am so glad I was not born in a nation in the Middle East, or some similar region where warfare is more common. But somehow, I think there's wisdom to be found from someone who sees war take place right in front of them. On or near their homes. I wonder. If another nation thought that your country was a harborer of terrorists, and decided to invade us to win that war. As a citizen of the invading country, would you help the invading country? Or fight back? Or would you hope that you get caught in one of the explosions so you wouldn't have to decide? Where does patriotism belong when your nation's leadership is wrong?

I'm in no hurry, but the desire is there.

That's the best way to do your shopping -- to do so when the interest is there but you don't HAVE to have it right away. Gives you the chance to research properly and take your time making a decision. This works well for buying cars too, or any big-ticket item.

cheers,
Phil

Aye. I think I'm going to need to hang out at places like Magnolia HiFi, where I can actually hear the equipment. Best Buy just blows for shopping for sound.

Home theater...

It's a great thing. Make sure you're happy with what you get. Two things you *must* be aware of when doing this:
1) *most* of what you hear comes from the center channel. Any system with a crappy looking center channel is going to sound sub-par.
2) If it doesn't have a good sub, skip it.

Other things worth noting are that there's no such thing as too much power. Remember, just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it. However, it is easy to find yourself in a situation that reveals a lack of power. This comes down to dynamics. Also make sure that your system leaves you room to grow.

Nationalism is dangerous. I'm a citizen of the U.S. purely by accident, and the government of the United States in the past four years has caused me to stop thinking of myself as an American. In my heart, I'm an earthling.

Why stop at earthling? In your heart, you can be who you wish. Howza 'bout an Evsise?

Hail, citizen! (Wait, I guess I don't have to do that here.)

Never heard of an Evsise. Whassat?
From: [identity profile] weaktwos.livejournal.com
It's from a Harlan Ellison short story. "I'm looking for Kadak", I believe. Evsise are Jewish aliens. Good fun. The story is laden with yiddish.

Hmmm. That's one of his I've never read, or even heard of. Interesting. Was it printed in one of the "Strange Kaddish" books?

I read it in his collection of shorts, "Approaching Oblivion"

ahhhh i LOVE my home theater :-) i got it before i ever got the TV. and i revel that it kicks the crap out of my friend's $300 setup from a box from best buy hehe. And my brother requested hearing it when he was over this weekend and remarked how it was better than a movie theater. hehe i rarely get petty, but after all i bought it because i like it, and listening to shitty sound bothers me. some peopel don't care but i do, as does my friend who was my advisor in the purchase :-)
