My journal name is “A Train Wreck Waiting to Happen” because sometimes I feel that way. Plus, I really dig the Sarah Mclachlan song.

My journal title and subtitle is a line from an XTC song called “Merely a Man” from their album “Oranges and Lemons”. I just like the line. You’ll see that’s what drives my titles and names. Whimsey.

My friends page is called “Purveyors of Beauty and Light” because I’m giving you folks the benefit of the doubt. Truly, y’all live up to that often enough to warrant the title.

My username is [livejournal.com profile] weaktwos because I used to play Bridge quite frequently, and that is my favorite Bridge question. Unless you’re truly interested in learning how bridge is played, don’t ask.

My default icon my mug in various configurations, but that is always subject to --that’s right!— my whimsey.

I'm still not sure what the point of bidding "weak twos" is. If your hand is "weak," why bid two of anything?

it's an offensive bidding strategy that prevents communication among your opponents. When you open bid a weak two bid (such as 2 hearts, for example) you are telling your partner you have 6 hearts in your hand, anywhere from 6-12 points, and at least two majors in that suit. Now, for your opponents to get in on the bidding, their options are 2 spades, 2nt and on into the 3s. If they don't know what their magic suit is, it could cause them some problems. If your partner magically has points and hearts, you two are golden. If your opponents chicken out and you have a 2 heart contract, you might actually make it. But it prevents your opponents from getting the rubber, and you can live to fight for another round of bridge. :-)
