What the fuck is in Orson Scott Card's crackpipe?

Not only is he joining the ranks of other Chridiots (Christian Idiots, for not all Christians are idiots), who are choosing to deride smart people, he thinks he knows what he's talking about. He also had the gall to belittle muslims and suggest that the terrorists are like little babies kicking Mommy's shins. Now, do Mommies declare war on their babies and kill them? No. Go back to analogy school, Orson. Of course, you'd have to commune with some people from Smartland to do that.

There's also a good bit in supergee's post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/supergee/617715.html) about this where he talks about how it can be shown that the "anti-Semitic template" can be terribly useful against any group one wishes to discredit. And it's pretty damned similar to what the Right has been saying about the Left for several years now, especially the bits about the leftist intelligentsia who don't care about the "common folk".

God that pissed me off! I was ranting at my computer screen. I wanted to make a point-by-point refutation of everything he said, but I'd be here all day. I guess I'll just satisfy myself with this: I'd rather be a proud patriot of 'smartland' than occupy the 'dumbland' that he seems to be advocating, inhabiting and leading.

I'm really getting pissed off about the villification of smart people in this country. And people who disagree with their country are patriots. Just like a Mother can disagree with their children and still love them (since Card is big on the Mother/baby analogy).

Speaking of assholes, someone commented in another person's blog about Card, and said when she hears Card mentioned, she "pictures a giant puckered asshole with legs." I find that helps.

they want power and control, saying it a lot doesn't make it true, but it works as propaganda. besides, they should fear the smart people, those are who can discredit and take them down.

So Newsweek kills people with a false story that is actually a lie (unlike anything President Bush ever said about Iraq and weapons of mass destruction), and nothing happens to the perpetrators.

granted he has a slight point about the media generally sensationalizing shit, as they did with 9/11. lots of images and things etc, it's not like they really care, they want scoops. that's neither left or right, it's just poor journalism of which there is aplenty (beyond just the tabloids i mean). i agree that internal things can sometimes be worked out internally, akin to not airing your dirty laundry on springer. but if things really are going wrong well, somethgin needs to be done and it shouldn't be kept a secret.

wow. smartland. so he is saying that the religious and middle america is just plain stupid and ignorant. and yet, manty of them are and so much so, they won't even realize they're being insulted. and smartland people are unpatroitic cause we're smart enough not to just fall in line and do what we're told, be it by a church or a gov't. geee that's a real winner there. and we smart people are what make the islamic want to blow us up. not because they fight with christians and israelis all the time, and because we support them and meddle in things and have money and power and they don't have a pile of sand to piss in. right, it must be the smart people, cause they support things like abortion and make movies. i can see the hate relationship there....

this guy truly is an ingnoramus who doesn't even make sense if you analyze what he said. but then only the minority of people in Smartland can do that i suppose.

No they won't. Whom do I think I'm kidding? They'll still blame it on Bush or the Christian right or the oil companies, because the central tenet of their belief is that their side can do no wrong.

Wow. That sounds just like "my country, right or wrong." Only instead of a country with borders, they have Smartland, the nation of people who know far better how to order the world than those ignorant unwashed masses of voters that keep electing morons who can't pronounce "nuclear."
hmmm ok is he trying to disprove his own side? i mean he says something essentially closeminded and stupid and then says how it sounds exatly like the patriotic imbecliles sound who just do anything anyone says without question. hmmmm. i couldn't have said it better. except to add that the smat people generally are more humble and think they know less than they do, they don't think they can do know wrong, in fact they know they can. blissfully ignorants are the ones who usually are the reverse.

then he goes to put down muslims. but as he says, he was angry at an attack on his religion. most people of that type are, and they piss and moan, so they are no better than the muslims. if they had no value for their life or could get away with it, they would launch another crusade like the christians did centuries ago. he just showed they are essentially the same, he's no better than they are. or only slightly better, because he didn't kill people over a flushing, which is just moronic.

I don't even know the story with Kingdom of heaven, but i already posted abotu a review telling how INaccurate it was, so as not to piss anyone off, it left out the darker yucky parts. both on Christian and muslim side, both were more evil than portrayed.

and funny he's talking about the religious fanatics and all and then goes to the democratic party. ummm hello, puritanism, lack of freedom, you got the wrong party there bub...

basically his stand comes from a religious one though, it's noithing more than that. beliving in "family values" and morals and such and that the democrats are anti that, so they're wrong and evil, and they are pushign him and his beliefs out. or more aptly, pushing it out from being force on people, as he is still free to believe as he wishes of course. but he's right so it's a terrible thing we're not all learning such doctrines...

eh, i'm sorry i guess there's really little point in having written that. after reading the article, you break down what the guy said and there's no real intelligent or logical arguments in there. it's all ignorance, rhetoric and propaganda. but i typed it and read anyway so now you're stuck with it :-)
