Fun with personal tech support

I bought my mother a print driver because her old desktop computer is failing, and her printer was attached to the failing computer. Now, with a print server, I can put the printer on the network in her home and she can print from her laptop anywhere.

I also fixed her tv so that her DVR and DVD would play nice together.

I'm currently being psychically bitchslapped by the print server install, however. oy.

hopefully I'm almost done. But I have done some serious network hokie pokie action to get the network to see the print server.

I'm glad I color my likely entirely gray hair.

It sucks that when you know more about a computer than turning it on, that people from miles around need (demand) your help for every little thing. My uncle recently wanted me to work on his NLX form factor, 99MHz computer with a whopping 24Mb of ram, to get him online with earthlink. (he had already subscribed so it was urgent...sigh) After hours of thinking I could produce miracles i gave up. Computer only half recognized modems.
Ya know, geek squad charges 200 dollars on average per house call...And we do this for free.

Sorry, just had to vent. lol.

Yeah, it's amazing how people won't do some basic research on their own. I think in your uncle's case, I would have said, "whoa. that computer can only serve one function now. Please help it satisfy it's destiny as a glorified paper weight."
