I have Guster Tix to Portland, and will be travelling come the end of March. Anyone have recommendations on a good little hotel to stay at?

I've never been to Portland, but I think they have a Motel 6 and a Super 8 there. You know you can't go wrong staying someplace with a number in its name.

Yes! The Washington Park Inn in Northwest is cheap and clean and really nice. We stayed there both times we visited the area before we moved. It's reasonably close to downtown and Forest Park and it's on a bus route if you care about such things. :-)

Northwest Portland, that is. I'm not sure if that was clear or not. *is tired*

Yeah, not what I was goin' for. ;-)

Thank goodness there isn't a Super 9. If the Motel 6 merged with the Super 9 and formed the Super Motel 69, that would probably increase sales, though.

Do you have a price range or area of town in mind?

I'd like it to be around $100 per night...and Near Powell's. :-)

You're not going to find too many hotels in the same neighborhood as Powell's, but there are a ton of them downtown. I would recommend the Marriott on Broadway. It's within walking distance of Powell's and you know what you're going to get. That might be too pricey though.

Here's a hotels.com search for Portland
http://www.hotels.com/processSearch.do?destination=af8ca603-be9d-49c7-90b6-8d3d9a1ab065%7C10cb47ba-8b5e-453e-806d-d09245900add%7CPortland%2C+OR%2C+USA%7C1&paging=2&sortBy=NAME&searchID=AC102643-17EC-3910-9B52-050F4A903A2F&searchMtmPropertySupplierId=&addressID=&searchType=&usertypedcity=portland&chooseAlternateDestination=false&propertyIdsToCompareString=&mtnHotelID=&numrooms=1&roomOccupancyString=1%7C%7C2%7C0%7C0&hotelName=&priceRangeKey=1&allPropertyTypesSelected=on&inout=&CIMonth=-1&CIDay=-1&CIYear=2006&COMonth=-1&CODay=-1&COYear=2006

You can stay near Lloyd Center and take MAX (lightrail) to downtown very easily. It'll let you off close enough to walk a few blocks to Powell's.

I was born and raised in Portland, but I haven't stayed at too many hotels there. It seems like this is an off-season so you could get a room at the Marriott for around $100/night.

The hotel that I'm thinking of is fun and unique - it's called Kennedy School, and it's literally a former elementary schoolhouse turned into hotel:

The rooms have chalkboards, etc. to keep it reminescent of its history. However, because it's now part of the McMenamin's group, it also has lots of amenities in the building, like a pub, movie theatre, etc. It's in your price range. It's not walking distance to Powell's, but it's something fun and kinda whimsical to consider :)

Oh very cool. I will look into this. I will be willing to sacrifice convenience for cool, quirky charm with good amenities! Thank you!

I'll be up there the evening of the 27th, and departing possibly the 29th or the 30th. If you have time,we'll have to meet up for lunch or something!

I'm off classes that week (between quarters) so that is actually quite doable. :-)
