Hiking and BBQ April 21 and 22 019
Hiking and BBQ April 21 and 22 019,

I went hiking at Point Reyes yesterday, and to a barbeque the night before. You can find more pictures here.

The hike itself was very doable. There was one incline that compelled me to heavy breathe my co-hiker. Lots of sludge on the trail, too. So it was fun to navigate around all that.

Now, I must go do laundry, get some groceries, and decide what else I wish to do on this day.

Glad you had such nice weather! Looks like a good hike. In August we're tackling the all-day hike up the back of Halfdome...I figured might as well do that since we already did Ben Nevis... ;)

Oh, and I've decided to modify my Weber grill into a firepit that will still be useable for BBQing...just one of my infinite number of projects to get done someday!

Yeah, I want to work my way up to all day hikes. :-)

I can tell you that with no modifications done to the weber grill, the bottom grate gets very pliable, but there is some melting of the handle. Largely, it stays in tact, so far. Sadly, the temperature of the fire does not get high enough to melt glass, as much as my compatriots and I attempted. Well, at least when the fire was just embers. You can make the glass dimple a bit, though. :-)

Thanks for the first-hand experience. Hmmm...I have no trace of plastic anywhere on my grill. My Weber has metal supports for its wooden handles both on the lid & on the sides of the "pit" itself, so I think I'm more at risk for stray sparks than melting. I wasn't really interested in melting glass per se, just a nice cosy fire for chatting in my backyard. :)

My friend Chris' old weber had plastic handles. It was a novelty Simpson's weber grill. ;-)

Yeah, it's probably not advisable to try to melt glass, but my friends like to experiment with various things. of course, I'm not going to discourage them. ;-)
