Saturday Mupdate

Today was a fairly lovely day.

Outline of today's activities:
-Drum lessons
-Trip to Fry's
-Hair Appointment
-Grocery shopping
-Trip to Ikea with taogrl. I found a new curtain rod for my room. Yay!
-Upgrade my Tivo from 80gb to 300.

Thoughts on the upgrade:
-Very easy. I used InstantCake from www.ptvupgrade.com. I purchased the 7.1 software for my Stand Alone Tivo. I set up my computer to reflect the cd rom as the primary slave and the new hard drive as the Secondary Master. This is important because it will not work unless you correctly set up the cd rom and drive. Total install time was about 4 hours.

Now I must sleep. I'm tired.

I noticed your lovely "wow" icon on your post over in the tivo community - I came over here to get to your user pics page because I was curious if you made it and if not, who did - In the meanwhile however, a couple of your posts caught my eye and caused me to seriously bust out laughing! (The BJs one for sure!) thus I have now friended you! Hope you don't mind! Feel free to add me if you find any of my drivel interesting! (Yes, I do post some of those darned quizzes and such even!)

huh you just bought the cd ran it on an empty hard drive and that was it huh? it must have the tivo kernel and all built in which is nice since the other tools require the original drive and essentially copy it.

i kinda would like that and their kernel obviously works with > 150GB hard drives. seeing as i wiped my tivo i wouldn't lose much in the way of settings and such anyway. and maybe instead of a 225GB hd, i'd get a 300gb and throw it in there. so it's worth the $20?

Actually, I downloaded the iso and burned that to cd, and then used my computer (disconnected my proper hard drives, and set up the hard drive on the secondary ide as master and the cd drive as slave on the primary ide cable. Boot to cdrom and voila! Yes, with version 7.0 or above on the tivo series 2, you can go up to 2x400, I think. some software notes on the ptvupgrade website explain. Just read the selections very carefully and make sure you get the right version of software for your system. I don't think you get any refunds if you download the wrong version.

ok good to know. the sample one i saw had images said 4.0, but they may have just been samples. maybe that is totally worth doing. thanks!

You have the Tivo Series 2, right? If your current software version is 7.2, definitely get hte 7.1 version. You will then need to update it a few times to get tivo to upgrade it back to the current version. Also, to make things easier, be prepared to hook it up to the phone line to dial up for the first time...just skip the registration.
