More planned Tivo hacking

I called Surewest the other day to compare their bundled internet/cable/telephone service to my current offering. I think I've come to the decision to simply get their internet package and forget the rest. I don't want to lose my DVR, in fact, I think it will be beneficial to attempt to hack the DirecTivo I have for my living room and upgrade it using InstantCake and the PTVnet. Then I will be able to get the DirecTivo up on my network. I acquired a 500gb hard drive from Fry's today, so I'll be able to gather up a lot of shows at high quality. I think I'll just put the idea of HD on hold for a while.
I bought a usb network adaptor at Fry's today. Of course, I picked the model that Tivo does not support. Piffle. Next week I'll take it back, I guess. Foo.
Since neither Surewest nor DirectTv offer cable card service, the allure of a Series 3 Tivo doesn't seem all that fantastic to me, especially since there's no lifetime service fee anymore.
So, that's it for this week's installment of "As Annie Hacks". Stay tuned for when I find a motherboard, processor and ram and build another computer from scratch!
