Veronica Mars
Sep. 25th, 2006 08:46 amSeason 2 arrived in my mail last week, so I'm rewatching the series along with the deleted scenes. I can certainly see why they opted to delete what the did on the first eight episodes. Despite that, they are fun to watch.
I think my favorite episode is 11, "Donut Run". Lucy Lawless is fun to watch, as always, and the whole game is fun to watch unfold. Also the range of emotion Kristin Bell had to display was good fun to behold. Could such a caper be pulled by a high school student in real life? Well, I guess no one is going to own up to it until the statute of limitations run out and they can write their autobiography.
But let's review: she can fool the Neptune Sheriff's Department. Okay, doable. She can outfox the FBI?? And still, she can't fool her Dad. A stretch, but a damn fun one, nonetheless.
Also, other gems in the series up to episode 11:
-Kevin Smith's appearance as a convenience store clerk. Expected, but no less delightful.
-Joss Whedon as the Rental Car Manager of the Universe. He's doubly there.
-Alysson Hannigan and Charisma Carpenter getting all catty in Episode 9. Brings back fond memories of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer.
-I also still enjoy the wordplay involved in episode 1, "Normal is the Watchword", with regard to Veronica's ex boyfriends and current boyfriends. I love how they used the fact that Veronica dated Duncan and Logan and was able to ambiguously refer to her "ex" which we find to be Logan. Expected, yet fun. Truly, I look forward to find out how Logan screws up in Season 3. We gotta be strong folks. If Logan and Veronica get together permanently, it means the series will implode and end.
- I was amused to see that Twin Peaks was influential to Rob Thomas when writing this series. This comes out in one of the bonus features videos. I really loved that show, and grew to hate it with the reason Rob stated. They drug the mystery out too long, and that follow up movie, Fire Walk With me...puhlease.
In other news, I finished watching Season 2 of BBC's new Who. I'm done with the series just in time for the season to air properly on Sci Fi starting this Friday. Hee.
Is anyone else watching he Battlestar Galactica shorts on Sci Fi? Some interesting developments and a great way to say "here's what we did on our summer vacation."
This morning my sinus/cold/nasal alien invasion is putting forth a final volley. It seems like there was some final viral battle in my nose last night. This morning features an expulsion of the trappings of said battle. My nose is like a clown car, and the amount of stuff I'm fitting in my nostrils fills me with shock and awe (awe-choo, that is). Barring that, I feel great.
