Ah, Friday at last.

Last night featured some working out, some movie watching, and drum practice.

I caught the Last Kiss with Zach Braff via Netflix. The subject matter is tragic: people screwing up their relationships with young children involved. It chewed on my heart strings, it did.

I practiced the drums a bit. In particular, I was taking an existing recording from a friend and trying to add drums to it. I was getting frustrated because something wandered off track compared to the click and the guitar rhythms. I'll have to mess around without the click track. I'll have plenty of time to mess around with this this weekend.

Something is whacky with my series 2 tivo and the integration with the Comcast box. Some of my recorded shows show up as the 'on demand cable" screen. I don't know how that can happen, so I'll have to noodle over that one.

MSNBC is cracking me up. A news item is the amount of press that is stalking Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton. Ugh. Why is this news to us?

As for Bush's proposal for Iraq: While I was not in favor of starting this invasion, we're there, and we kinda messed things up. So the question is: is it better for us to walk away or try and stabilize the area? If we leave, I suspect Iraq will not be our ally. Then again, I don't think they were ever meant to be one.

Well, i can't dwell on this further, time to prepare for work.

We won't leave Iraq. I heard on NPR the other night that the US government has been pressuring the Iraqi government to allow private oil corporations. Every major oil exporting nation has nationalized oil production. But remember, we didn't invade Iraq for oil.

I think we've chosen a fair compromise

Walking away would probably one of the most immoral things the nation could do (we created this situation, whether it was justified or not). On the other hand, the Iraqi people have to step up at some point. Stability isn't going to happen if they don't cooperate.

I think the fact that we are giving them one more chance is fair, and a good decision.

If we leave, Iraq being bitter would be the least of it. The ensuing power vacuum would likely be exploited by Iran. Mistake #1 in this whole ordeal was that we grossly underestimated Iran. In fact, we probably have to deal with Iran before the Iraq situation will be solved.

But if we stay indefinitely, the Iraqi people will never take the reins.

We also have this "war at home" thing to deal with. And I don't mean the dissenters. Those who dissent, i.e. those against war in the first place, are entitled to and perfectly justified in their opinions. It's those who are rooting for failure (yes, there are some, many of them public figures) that are damaging the morale of the nation, and we're really being seen as weak. How to deal with this? I have no clue.

Hey, I have several MP3s that are obviously created for drum practice as it doesn't contain any drums. You want me to send them to ya?
