I don't know if you're quoting the actual quote of John Adams or if you're quoting 1776 (which contains many actual quotes in its script)

I don't know the specific source for certain. This showed up in my "Quote of the Day" off my google homepage.

Well, the quote is John Adams

but if you haven't seen 1776, I urge that you do.
The musical was written by a historian and a good portion of the lines are taken from the Congressional records. There is a love song between John Adams and his wife and the lyrics are mostly taken from their actual letters to one another.
