Hike! Hike! Hike!
May. 28th, 2007 07:58 amWhat better way to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend by taking my good friend
taogrl on a forced march to Feather Falls in Oroville?
It's an 8 mile hike if you take the round trip loop. You have an older 3.3 mile trail, and a newer 4.5 mile trail. Research on the internet was split as to which one to take first. If you take the 4.5 mile in and the 3.5 mile out, apparently the hike is mostly down hill, except for the last 1.5 miles. Of course, you need to make sure your shoes are comfy at the toes for such travel. The other camp said, take the 3.3 mile first, while you're still fresh, and the 4.5 is a nice cruise out.
taogrl and I took the 3.3 in and the 4.5 out. I'm not sure I want to save the worst for last. But if I go back, and I think I will, I will try the 4.5 in and 3.3 out to see which I like best. I'll say I was pretty darned tired after this hike.
It's rated as a moderate hike. I think it's a harder hike for fat chicks like myself. However, it was cool to see the falls. I think it's a 640 foot waterfall, and the hike along the way is largely quite lovely.

The hike took us about 4.5-5 hours, including stopping to rest and have lunch up at the falls. I do believe one can get closer to the falls, but that's an extra long hike, and after not hiking like this for a long time, any extra hiking would have been a bad idea.
The aftermath today is some stiffness, but it's slowly working itself out as I mill around doing laundry and straightening up the domicile.
I hope y'all had a wonderful weekend!
