So, here we take the time to celebrate our Independence from those once oppressive limeys who our now our friends. Really, folks, it was nothing personal. So began our inherent disdain of taxes. It's just that these days we do a lot more than pitch tea in the harbor. We whine. A lot.

So, two hundred and thirty years later, we've gained a lot of weight compared to our scrawny 13-colony girth. And we're occupying another country, but that's a long and complex tale. And tea-tossing is no longer a strong enough expression of dissatisfaction. We're up to suicide bombing. Sure, we were young, lean and feisty colonists in our day, but if we were to compare us with the insurgents, well, our ancestors would come off as a tad soft.

As many imperfections as we have, it is still a very very good place to be.
