So, two things to note
Aug. 31st, 2007 08:49 pm-I get excited whenever I hear the Decemberist's "The Legionnaire's Lament". I am endlessly tickled that the song incorporates the words "shiraz" and "laudinum" in the song so effortlessly (at least it seems effortless).
Oh yes, I'm easily amused. No doubt about it. I don't really enjoy drinking Shiraz. I haven't and likely won't ever use laudinum. But as words, I adore their sound.
-I cannot pass up any mention of Donner Lake without a Donner Party joke. I can imagine this can annoy folks. I annoy myself. But it just rolls out of my head like a stream of melted butter.
Just today some folks mentioned going to Donner Lake, and I had to advised them to bring extra leather belts. "Yes, yes," I said, "I know that population increase and technological advancements have progressed such that it's highly unlikely that you'll get stranded and want to eat your family, but it never hurts to have a stash of unlikely edibles available just in case."
Apparently reading "Ordeal By Hunger" back in high school traumatized me more than I care to admit. Such. A. Moron. Am. I.
