Michael Graham writes about John Kerry misrepresenting his ancestry. Of course, he rose to power in a place where being perceived as Irish helped your career politically.

He's actually Jewish. Graham acts like this is a big deal. Yet Graham seems to have no problem with the Kennebunkport Bushes moving down to Texas and acting like they are down home countryboys. He has no problem with having a leader with duis and drug use acting like he's a humble, religious man. He has no problem supporting a man who never could run a successful business venture on his own being a leader of a country that used to pride itself on hard work and success, not partying, being AWOL, and overall mediocrity. And finally, he has no problem with such leaders putting our soldiers on the line over falsified intelligence.

Who are we kidding here. Character pissing contests are fruitless. Our politicians are going to lie. But I'd rather their lies didn't cause the deaths of others, and the loss of freedoms. Kerry fibbing about his Irish descent didn't kill 500 soldiers.

Oh! and...

According to an article in Salon.com, a Colorado soldier just returning home from Iraq shot himself.

Steve Robinson, executive director of the National Gulf War Resource Center, an advocacy group for veterans of both conflicts, said at least 23 service members committed suicide in Iraq since the war started and six, excluding Howell, killed themselves after returning stateside.

I wonder how many folks committed suicide in WWII?

It's an interesting analogy between what we're doing in the middle east and the first 100 Years War.

Good reading.

Wow, I'm quite the social butterfly this week.

-Today is an off the diet day, given potluck festivities and a girl's night out to the local Fondue Hut (aka, the Melting Pot). After that, I may hop a visit to D&A's house for the weekly salon of liberal politics.
-Tomorrow night is a game of Feng Shui. So far we are looking at four players who are eager to show up. Alexis Payne, International Woman of Mystery will take to the streets and thump evil doers once again!(Plus, since she is an International Woman of Mystery, she might catch some hot men, too)
-Cabin Boy is coming to town from Phoenix for a visit. I agree do host a poker game at my domicile for da Boyz of IT.

Woof!

I'm thinking of rejoining Toastmasters. There are too many religiously charged speeches in there. I need to put the group back into balance with humorous and enlightening speeches that aren't hackneyed inspirational stories.
