Names of Popes

For some reason, I become fascinated by the names of the Popes we have had over time. I find it quite cool that we had a Pope Lando. We had a Cletus, too! And who could forget a Pope Hilarius. I am sure it doesn't mean what it sounds like, however.

Well, the known world was much smaller then. Maybe they didn't have a lot of choices.

So true...and they were limited to Latin names, probably. But, in looking at these names, I had no idea that the male form of Anastasia was Anastasius. And we had two famous toon cats named after Popes: Sylvester and Felix.

What is your favorite Pope name? Will you name one of your children "Agapetus", for example?
