News round-up:
May. 26th, 2004 11:23 amI agree with
politicalwire, it is odd that the White House didn’t request that Bush’s speech be covered on all the news stations. But it is also interesting that non-cable news shows opted not to air the broadcast. As a result, ratings for his speech were drastically lower than previous addresses.
Salon also has an article noting that the Rush Limbaugh show is broadcast on military radio for the troops. Rush, as we know, is very partisan, and supposedly there is no alternative viewpoint presented to the troops. This isn’t surprising, however. I think what certain liberal radio programs have to say would be too upsetting for the troops. But I also think they shouldn’t air Rush’s show. Eeeg.
Also, it appears that Justice Rehnquist is ordering a committee to study judicial ethics after the Scalia “scandals” going on. Apparently Ruther Bader Ginsberg has also been involved in with organizations that have cases that are brought to the Supreme Court. I wonder if this will really make a difference. Which would you rather have? A supreme court justice who hides the outward manifestations of his bias, or one who acknowledges it? Either way, the quality of his judicial opinions will remain the same. Wouldn’t you think?
